Don't Shut Me Out

Kaylan glanced up as Chancey entered the room. He smiled when he noticed the older man was bearing gifts in the form of fresh coffee and sandwiches. Pushing his textbook, pencils and papers out of the way, he cleared a space for his husband to place the treats on the table. He was somewhat disappointed when he saw that his coffee was actually milk.

“This is just what I need, Chance, my stomach had started to growl.” Kaylan smiled his gratitude and waited for the good doctor to take a seat next to him. “How are things going with Sarah?” he asked worriedly, reaching for a sandwich and taking a big bite.

“Things are moving slower than she’s hoping for, but this is her first baby and will take some time,” Chancey explained, leaning back in his chair and deeply breathing in the satisfying aroma of his coffee. “How’s the lesson coming along?”

Kaylan’s groan of exasperation clearly answered that particular inquiry and caused Chancy to softly chuckle.

“This is your last module, baby. You will be well prepared to take that all important examination at the end of the week.”

“Yeah, but this time next week I’ll be a nervous wreck waiting to learn the results. I want so badly to be promoted to Sergeant, Chancey; just wish it didn’t involve this damn course and all the other shit that goes with it,” the younger man grumbled. “I’ve been at it over a month now and my head is bursting with official procedures, formalities, rules and regulations.”

Chancey shook his head and slowly sipped his coffee. He was fully aware of his Brat’s dislike to this side of his profession. Kaylan was a dedicated police officer, who performed his job diligently and always to the best of his ability. Chancey was proud that his husband had been offered the opportunity to move up in the ranks.

“Guess it could be worse,” Kaylan mumbled around a mouthful of chicken salad and bread. “I could be home alone trying to squeeze more info into my head, instead of hanging out with you here at the hospital.”

“Well I’d certainly rather be spending time with you in between checking on Sarah, than just wandering the hallways.” Chancey glanced at the clock on the wall. “It’s just after nine; at ten o’clock I want you to put the books away and get some rest. You can sleep on the sofa over there. I doubt anyone else will need it tonight.”

“Ah come on, Chance,” Kaylan started to complain but the expression on his Top’s face made him wisely reconsider. He knew he was mega over-tired, what with keeping up with his shifts at the station and studying whenever he found free time. That time was often when Chancey was asleep and Kaylan snuck out of bed in the wee hours of the morning. He had been caught twice and the outcomes both times had not been happy ones.

“Finish up here, love. You have forty-five minutes before hitting the sack.” Chancey gulped down the last of his coffee and stood up. “I’m going to look in on Sarah again, but I’ll be back to check on you shortly.” He grinned at the milky tongue that was stuck out at him and left the room.

It was going on two AM when Chancey gently woke his husband out of a sound sleep. “We can go home now, Copper. Up you get, please.”

“Did Sarah have the baby?” Kaylan groggily inquired while trying to get to his feet. He gratefully accepted his partner’s help. Without it, he probably would have fallen on his face.

“Yes, a beautiful little boy; weighed in at seven and a half pounds. Parents and newborn are doing great. And their doctor is riding high.” Chancey smirked at his husband. “I hope you’re well rested, because I certainly have a lot of excess energy to get rid of before I’ll be able to fall asleep.”

“I’m ready for you, big guy,” Kaylan assured him with a happy leer.

They arrived home half an hour later. Both men stripped down as soon as they got in their bedroom. Chancey all but threw his young lover on to their large queen-size bed.

He bent his head to give a tender lick to each of Kaylan’s nipples. They hardened immediately, causing Kaylan to let out a loud gasp. Chancey continued pressing the lightest touches of lips and fingers to Kaylan’s body as he moved ever closer to the other man’s straining erection.

“Don’t cum, my love, until I say you can,” Chancey quietly ordered as he tenderly nuzzled his husband’s flesh. He spent the next half hour or so, making love to every inch of Kaylan body and preparing him for his entry.

When Chancey felt Kaylan was ready, he firmly pressed his way home; then waited for his lover to become accustomed to the invasion. Getting into a rhythm, he steadily pumped harder and faster. “Now, my love,” he called out as together they crashed into mind-blowing climaxes.

Chancey collapsed on top of Kaylan. But as soon as he gained enough presence of mind, he rolled off him. They lay there side by side; each panting and struggling to catch his breath as the cool breeze from the window blew over their sweat-drenched bodies.

Several minutes later, Kaylan whispered, “You feel like getting up and having a shower with me? I’m starting to get a little cold.”

Chancey turned and kissed his lover’s lips. “I’m right behind you, baby. Go get started. We should be more than able to sleep after that.”

The week went by fast and all too soon, whether he was ready or not, Kaylan found himself writing his final exam. However, any feelings of relief that it was now a done deal were short lived. No sooner had he left the building to drive home, than he started fretting over the possibility that he might have failed.

He spent the next several days driving Chancey around the bend. His moods swings were taking their toll on both of them. But Chancey patiently withstood the ups and downs while determinedly making sure his Brat ate and slept properly.

Then the letter arrived, informing Kaylan he had passed and been promoted. He was now a sergeant and was expected to pick up his new uniforms at his earliest convenience. Kaylan was elated and Chancey, while exited for his partner, was also very relieved. Unfortunately, he realized a couple of days later that his belief all was back to normal was somewhat premature.

Kaylan wasn’t well, and Chancey was perfectly aware of not only his Brat being under the weather but also of him being tight-lipped about it.

Chancey kept a surreptitious eye on Kaylan, watching him rub his forehead periodically and squinting when a light was turned on. It eventually got to the point where Chancey found himself grimacing each time his partner did.

By noon, the doctor realized he had waited long enough before demanding to know what was wrong.

“Nothing’s wrong,” Kaylan answered, shrugging his shoulders in an attempt to go for a nonchalant attitude. It didn’t work.

Wrapping his hand around Kaylan’s arm, Chancey pulled him off the sofa and steered him into the kitchen where he sat him at the counter. “Stay there. Don’t move. I’ll be right back.” With that, the older man went to fetch his medical bag.

He returned, took out a thermometer and gently placed it in Kaylan’s ear. At the sound of the beep, he checked it. “Okay, you’re not running a temperature. Now, let’s see what your blood pressure it.”

Chancey frowned at the gauge, almost in disbelief. “I don’t like this,” he muttered. Looking his Brat straight in the face, he asked again, “Kaylan, I want the truth. When did you start feeling sick, what exactly is hurting you, and how bad is it.”

Kaylan couldn’t take the pain any longer. He finally broke down and gave himself up to the care of his husband, lover and Top. “I woke up with a headache about five this morning. I’ve taken painkillers twice but they haven’t helped at all.” He leaned forward and put his head on Chancey’s shoulder. “It’s bad, Chance, really bad.”

Chancey could hear the tears of pain in his partner’s voice. “It will be all right, sweetheart,” he murmured as he rubbed soothing circles on Kaylan’s back.

Suddenly Kaylan bolted up and made a dash for the bathroom. He just made it in time to bring up everything he’d eaten that morning. Chancey was by his side in a heartbeat.

“That does it. We’re going to the ER.” Chancey made this announcement in the aftermath of his husband throwing up. “You are in need of more help than I can give you here at home, Copper.”

An hour later, Kaylan was resting in a hospital bed with an IV in his right hand. He hadn’t wanted to watch what the nurse was doing but found it irresistible not to follow her every move. Now he was waiting for the Gravol to kick in; silently praying it would work fast so they could give him the morphine as promised.

Three small doses of the strong painkiller didn’t even make a dent in the horrendous pain and he had thrown up half a dozen more times. Their family doctor not being available added to Kaylan’s uncertainties as he was opposed to having strangers poking at him. At least Chancey was a constant present; keeping a discerning eye on the proceedings and getting involved with the decision making. Chancey had also assured his partner that the attending physician was very well qualified.

Having a cat-scan proved interesting and revealed all was normal. Kaylan was particularly relieved when Chancey refused to allow the spinal tap that had been suggested. Chancey’s reasoning having been that this was only a first time episode and in his opinion did not call for something so drastic.

They finally decided to treat it as a migraine, even though Kaylan had never had one before. After another dose of Gravol, a final painkiller was administered via the IV and at long last the pain slowly started to dissipate.

It was one exhausted young man, who Chancey took home and tucked into bed that evening. The good doctor was definitely not looking forward to the much needed conversation they would be having in the morning.

Chancey sat at the kitchen table, watching his husband scoff down a healthy breakfast. He smiled and once again marvelled at the speedy recovery rate of some patients. Looking at Kaylan, one would never suspect him of having been so ill yesterday.

“So, Copper, how are you feeling this fine Spring morning?”

Kaylan glanced up and grinned. “Just great; headache’s completely gone and my stomach is back to normal. I’m raring to go.”

“Hmm, glad to see you so chipper,” Chancey commented before finishing the last of his coffee. “But the only place you’re going while I straighten up in here, young man, is right over there.”

Kaylan opened his mouth to argue; then quickly changed his mind. Even knowing what he had done wrong, didn’t stop him from turning pleading eyes up to his Top. Kaylan had shut the man out yesterday by not being up front with what could have become a serious health issue. He should have informed his husband several hours earlier of his headache.

When no reprieve was forthcoming, he reluctantly pushed himself away from the table and shuffled over to the corner.
Leaning against the wall, he mentally reviewed yesterday’s event and tried to come up with how he could have handled things differently.

Kaylan didn’t want to be punished but knew in his heart it was what worked for them. He waited for Chancey to call him over and hoped it would be sooner rather than later, as he just wanted to get it over with and be forgiven.

He heard the chair being pulled out from under the table and then the fateful words. “Copper, love; come here please.”

Kaylan blanched when he turned around and saw the paddle. Still, he obediently made his way over to his husband, settled himself on the welcoming lap and laid his head on Chancey’s shoulder. “I’m sorry, Chance. I should have told you right away instead of you having to drag it outta me.”

“I know, love. I just wish you had thought of that yesterday.” Chancey held his Brat tightly and kissed his head. “However, you are also aware of the fact that I will never let you get away with keeping imperative information from me, especially where your well-being is concerned. You fully understand the premise our relationship is built upon, don’t you?” he asked kindly and without censure.

Getting a grunt of agreement; Chancey patted Kaylan’s hip. “Up you get then, babe, and we’ll get this taken care of.”
He waited for the other man to stand up, then reached over and hooked his fingers into the waistband of Kaylan’s sweatpants to swiftly yank them down to his knees.

He got his Brat into position and started to spank until his target was rosy and warm. Then picking up the paddle, he continued the chastisement until the entire bottom was a deep red and very hot.

Kaylan’s gasped at first, and then the tears began to gather. Try as he might, he was unable to hold them back and was soon sobbing. “I’m sorry, Chance, I’m really, really sorry,” he repeated until any form of speaking became impossible.

Chancey stopped the spanking and lifted his young love onto his lap. “Okay, Copper love. It’s all over. The slate is wiped clean and I love you.” He gently rocked his partner while letting him cry it out.

Several long minutes passed, the only sounds in the room being Kaylan’s sporadic hitching and sniffles, and Chancey’s soothing words of comfort.

“I’ll never leave you out of the loop again, Chance,” Kaylan earnestly vowed. “That is, I’ll try my best not to.”

“Doing your best is all I ask, my love.”

The End
